Safety problems of steel deck

As a structural components the safety of steel deck is the primary consideration. We consider it in three stages: construction stage, use stage and fire stage.

１. During the construction stage, the structural designer should first consider the bearing capacity and deflection control of the steel deck during the concrete pouring process, which needs to be calculated. In the design, the type, thickness, yield strength and thickness of the floor slab shall be selected, and the architect's scheme shall be integrated to calculate whether the continuous span or simply supported slab is used, whether to add temporary support, etc. These are to ensure the safety in the construction stage.

２. At fire stage, the bearing capacity and deflection control of the floor slab under the later service load are mainly considered. It is necessary to consider whether to design the composite floor slab or non-composite floor slab. This is basically not a big problem, and it has been calculated in the early stage of the design. Of course, when considering whether to design according to the composite floor slab, we will consider what type of steel deck to choose.

３. Fire stage in the fire stage, the bearing capacity and deflection of the floor slab shall meet the requirements within the fire resistance period. For steel deck, fire resistance design calculation or fire resistance test report is required to ensure safety in case of fire.
