4. Thickness of steel deck

This is very easy to understand. The thicker the steel deck, the higher the amount of steel used, of course, the higher the cost; for which thickness to choose, you can refer to the technical parameters in the steel deck supplier's catalog, or you can calculate the required thickness according to the engineering situation. Under normal circumstances, structural designers generally design steel decks with a thicker thickness than actually required. 5. Plate type of steel deck

Steel decks are available in a variety of plate types to suit different structural forms. But in a structural design, there are many plate types to choose from. Choosing a plate type that meets safety requirements and uses a low amount of steel is a great way to save costs. For example, if you need to choose a steel deck with a rib height of 3”, there are two options: SD75-600 and SD76-915, both with a thickness of 0.91mm, but the amount of steel used is different. The amount of steel used for SD75-600 is 11.9 mm. kg/m2, while the steel consumption of SD76-915 is 9.8kg/m2, the difference between the two types of steel consumption is 21.4%, of course, the cost can be reduced by 21.4%.

6. Raw material of steel deck

For this, the raw materials are mainly the yield strength and the amount of galvanizing. The higher the yield strength, the higher the price in general. This parameter is related to structural safety, and negative tolerances are not allowed; and the amount of galvanizing has an anti-corrosion effect. It is also not allowed to reduce the amount of galvanizing required by the drawings without permission. However, for experienced designers or contractors, the method of increasing the yield strength of raw materials can be used to reduce the thickness of the steel deck. Of course, this requires technical review and the consent of the designer.
