How far can steel decking span

The length of steel deck spans will depend upon the type of steel deck and manufacturer specifications.

One indicator of how far steel deck can span is its depth. Typically, a deeper type of steel deck, such as SD76 or SD66 composite deck, will be able to span further than shorter depth steel decks, like SD38 or SD51 composite deck.

Some other factors that affect steel deck span are the deck gauge, steel grade, and, for steel floor deck, slab depth.

Deck gauge is the measure of the thickness of each steel deck profile. steel deck with a thicker gauge will be able to span farther than steel deck with a smaller gauge.

When it comes to steel grade, steel deck with a higher grade will typically be able to span farther than steel deck with a lower grade.such as S340, will be able to  span further than the lower,like S280.

Steel decks of the same gauge and grade can span farther with smaller slab depth than with larger slab depth.
